Oudoor Living
In the late 1800's the railroad logged Fort Valley area, this is why you see a zig zag pattern to the tree line in the valley. There was a huge Lake that was created by the Leroux springs that rushed out of the base of the San Fransisco Peaks. The marshy area or low lying area with no trees to the South side of HWY 180, was almost all under water! Large herds of cattle, deer and elk would graze there.
The driveway
The long meandering driveway that leads to the house was once one of these logging roads. The loggers would camp on the property in tents and gaze at the stars under the trees. The owners have found old bottles and a iron wheel in the area where they camped. There are edible mushrooms that sprout and wild iris that bloom each year.
Pine trees
The pine trees on the property were cleaned up a few years ago. The rock wall to the north and east of the house was hand stacked with rock that was on the property. You will notice some of the trees have been topped off, this is due to the herds of elk that come through during the "Rutting" season, they rub the velvet off of their horns on the pine trees.
Log Home
If you look across the street on the North side you may be able to see the remains of the log home office that the Babbitt family used when logging the area.
Barn/ Outbuilding area
On the south acre of the property there is a built up area with compaction material perfect for a barn or an extra out building. To add to the fun, there is a clean out for your RV to the south of the garage.
